The Third Sector also known as community or not-for-profit sector is an important yet often misunderstood segment of the economy. Crossing many areas of the economy, it has the potential to generate economic value- employing full-time equivalent of 1.5m staff; engaged with skills and enterprise development; and addressing worklessness, health inequalities, social issues and community cohesion. The sector is also directly linked to a healthy economy with a collective annual turnover of £46bn (ACEVO). Despite the positive outlook, third sector organisations are also facing very different challenges and its future depends on a strong representative voice and a skilled workforce.  The Train2Lead Programme has therefore been designed to empower and skill up individuals as Community Champions with possible employment or volunteering opportunities with a third sector organisation.
